'Immensely Liberating'
I've had no internet for nearly a week - it has been mildy annoying buy mainly immensely liberating.
I've nearly written a new book.
And I've been reading this.

Reading / Writing
Hello.
I wrote this for The Guardian, about the reformation/influence of Big Audio Dynamite.
I'm currently reading this. I read it in 1998 but have no recollection as to the contents, so thought I should investigate again:
I'm also reading this, about Vivian Mackerrell aka "the real Withnail"....
...who acted in this (which I'd love to see if anyone has a copy).
Goodbye.

'Brief / Banal'
Good morning. I'm working on a new novel at the moment. I started it in 2007 (pre-Richard) and resumed it in 2010 and consequently it is at a relatively advanced stage, so postings here may be somewhat irregular and / or brief / banal.
The Quietus have done an interview with me about Richard, and featured an extract from the book. You can read that here.

'..................'
Nearly 3 years ago I wrote a story called '.........', which was published on 3:AM Magazine. Quite a few people have been re-reading it and circulating it on Twitter this week so I thought I'd link to it again. It is a parody. Here it is.

Valhalla Dancehall.
Hello.
Regular readers may be aware that my tolerance for low-grade indie and/or rock has whithered to a near non-existent level, yet my enthusiasm for the band British Sea Power with their many literary, geographical and topographical references continues unabated.
I've written a few words about their new album Valhalla Dancehall for The Quietus, which you can read here.
In other news: I will shortly be announcing the winner of the recent competition to win a signed copy of Richard plus some other bits. Watch this space. This one right here.
In other news: it is my birthday and I got a fine array of new acquisitions, ranging from Chekhov to Sun Ra, Childish to Cope and beyond. That's good. Thanks.
In other news: it's raining profusely across Yorkshire.
Good day to you all.

Win A Book
** Update **
(I am re-posting this as new year's eve was possibly not the best time to attempt to run a competition.)
I am giving away one copy of RICHARD: A NOVEL.
It will be signed by the author (me).
You (the lucky recipient) will also receive a randomly selected object that is close to hand whenever the book is inserted into a A5 padded envelope. This may or may not be of monetary value.
This giveaway will be limited to individuals who have not yet read RICHARD: A NOVEL.
The only stipulation is that you (the lucky recipient) will then proceed to Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com and submit a review of RICHARD: A NOVEL that begins with the words "I won a copy of this book in a competition..."
What you (the lucky etc etc) choose to write beyond that point - if you choose to write anything at all - is entirely your decision.
To enter simply post your name below before January 10 2011, upon which date a name will be randomly selected and the 'winner' notified.
